Aussie Rules recruit Cian Hanley has revealed that it will be next year before he starts full training with his new club Brisbane Lions.

The 2014 Mayo minor footballer has flown out to Australia and has linked up with his new club, but having suffered a cruciate knee injury in Mayo's defeat to Kerry in this year's All-Ireland MFC semi-final, Hanley is unable to partake in full training for another few months.

Hanley joins his older brother Pearse at the Eastern Australian city's club and the Western People reports that the youngster has confirmed that it will be next year before he gets to grips with the discipline.

"It'll be next year I think. It's only been six weeks since my operation. So right now, I'm doing lots of swimming, cycling and boxing, just to keep the pressure off my knee," said Hanley.

"We'll set little goals, things like a single-leg squat, and set out to achieve them. Hopefully, that way, I'll make it back quicker."
