Maher had predicted Tipp fixture chaos

October 30, 2014

The current fixture backlog in Tipperary hasn't come as any surprise to fixtures secretary Tom Maher.

The Premier County won't be represented in the Munster club senior football, intermediate hurling or intermediate football championships this year because their county championships are running way behind schedule - a situation Maher had feared would happen in his last two reports to county convention.

Maher's own club Moyne-Templetuohy were due to represent Tipp in the Munster club IHC quarter-final against Waterford champions Cappoquin on Sunday, but will instead be facing Thurles Sarsfields' second team in the county IHC final at Semple Stadium (Sarsfields will also be involved in the SHC final on the same day).

"Our structures are just crazy - off the wall," Maher told delegates at last night's county board meeting.

"Clubs are asking us to work off a system which is simply unworkable and little did I know when I made my comments in the last two reports, that my own club would be one of the ones to lose out.

"We will have the same problem time and again in this county because the dates are simply not there to support the structures which have been adopted by the clubs.

"We haven't a hope in hell of meeting our commitments in terms of Munster dates and we need not blame anyone else," he added.
