Brian Cody has escaped sanction following his criticism of referee Barry Kelly.

The Kilkenny manager appeared before the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) in Croke Park last night after the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) brought a change of misconduct against him. It followed Cody's description of Kelly's decision to award an injury-time free to Tipperary in the drawn All-Ireland hurling final on September as "criminal".

While Cody has been warned about his future conduct, the CHC found his comment "did not constitute misconduct considered to have discredited the association."

A statement issued by Croke Park this afternoon read: "At a hearing in Croke Park last night, the CHC considered comments attributed to Brian Cody in the national media did not constitute misconduct considered to have discredited the Association. However, Brian Cody was warned as to his future conduct in media interviews."
