Doubts have been raised over the future of Tipperary senior hurling manager Eamon O'Shea.

Today's Irish Times reports that the Premier County boss, who led Tipp to within touching distance of this year's All-Ireland SHC title, is considering his future due to the heavy workload of combining work, family life and living in Galway with the demands of running a senior intercounty team.

O'Shea was given a two-year extension at the end of 2013 and is therefore entitled to remain on as manager next season but the arrangement is open to review and there are concerns that he might be forced to opt out.

There is no doubt that the Tipp players would be devastated to lose the services of the NUIG-based economics professor, with a number of them having already lobbied the County Board to retain his services.

Chairman Sean Nugent confirms in The Irish Independent: "The players would be hugely supportive of Eamon O'Shea and the management team staying on - I got that message very clear. Eamon O'Shea was appointed as manager for the 2013 season on a one-year term.

"That's all they wanted at the time, a one-year term. But at the end of the 2013 campaign, the matter had to come before the County Board. Eamon O'Shea and his management team looked for two years and the County Board approved that."
