"An absolutely absorbing game of bad football"

RTE pundit Colm O'Rourke produced one of the quotes of the year in summing up the All-Ireland final.

Reflecting on the defensive, mistake-ridden, yet intriguing contest between Kerry and Donegal, the Meath legend said: "It was an absolutely absorbing game of bad football.

"There was a time in the second half when it was just awful stuff - seven or eight wides in-a-row. And, of course, the real mistake by Paul Durcan to Kieran Donaghy (for Kerry's second goal) sealed the game.

"That was an amazingly bad mistake by a goalkeeper who has been absolutely excellent all year. And it changed the game."

Colm's side-kick Joe Brolly was equally unimpressed with the fare on offer, although he did give credit to Kerry for winning the tactical battle.

"Donegal could have no complaints as they got their own medicine today," he said.

"And that's the way to play against Donegal, you've got to do what they do. I've got to say that I didn't think Kerry had advanced to this stage to defeat Donegal, but I suppose the (Donaghy) goal, you would have to say, was the decisive factor."
