Down chairman Seamus Walsh says the identity of the new senior football manager will be made known "very, very soon" - with Kilcoo's Jim McCorry heading the betting market.

Walsh refused to comment on the McCorry speculation when talking to The Irish News but it is a widely held belief that the former Armagh manager is in line to take over from James McCartan after Tony McEntee and Gareth O'Neill pulled out of the race.

Mark Turley and Conor Deegan were also interviewed for the job following the departure of McCartan.

An announcement could be made after this weekend's Down SFC semi-finals which sees McCorry's reigning champions take on Mayobridge on Friday night.

The latest developments also appears to end speculation that McCorry could return to his native county as part of Kieran McGeeney's backroom set-up.
