There is speculation that Kieran McGeeney could be appointed Armagh football manager as early as Wednesday.

The 2002 All-Ireland winning captain and outgoing assistant manager is posed to fill the vacancy left by Paul Grimley, who stepped down in the wake of the Orchard County's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat to Donegal earlier this month.

The Armagh county board is due to meet on Wednesday night and McGeeney, who spent six seasons in charge of Kildare and is part of Tipperary's backroom team for the All-Ireland SHC final against Kilkenny on Sunday week, may well be ratified for 2015.
