Cavan manager Terry Hyland believes the All-Ireland junior football championship has plenty of merit.

Ulster is the only one of the four provinces that doesn't run a provincial competition at this level, so the Breffni County qualified for tomorrow's All-Ireland final against Kerry by winning the Leinster JFC.

"It's strange that the Ulser counties don't get involved in it because we use it for playing our younger players," the Cavan boss notes in The Irish News.

"The oldest player we have is 24. You'd be hoping that some of them come through to senior level. We had some lads involved who were on the senior panel but didn't get much game time.

"There's lads who came off the U21 panel and didn't make it on to the senior panel. It's a way to bring them on at a higher level.

"There's probably six of next year's U21s on the team. It's a great grounding for those lads and it keeps them involved as well."
