Selector John Galvin believes Kerry's minors have what it takes to get the better of Mayo in Sunday's Croke Park curtain-raiser.

The Connacht champions go into the semi-final tie as defending All-Ireland champions but Galvin is confident the Jack O'Connor-managed Kingdom can progress to the final:

"Mayo won the All-Ireland last year, but I believe our lads are of good character," he says in The Irish Examiner.

"A lot of them won Hogan Cup medals this year. It is comforting to know they won an All-Ireland up there in Croke Park this spring. Micheál Burns came on in the All-Ireland club football semi-final for Dr Crokes.

"Barry O'Sullivan is a great leader. I think there are a good number of leaders on the team - Burns, Tomás O Sé, Shane Ryan, Killian Spillane and Matthew Flaherty. You have less vocal lads like Brian Begley who does his talking on the field. They are all confident in their own ability.

"They don't doubt themselves. That will be the test the next day and I think the mental character of our team will come to the surface."
