Galway won't be looking beyond their own boundaries in their search for a replacement for Alan Mulholland, who stepped down as senior football manager this morning.

That's according to county board chairman Noel Treacy, who has ruled out the prospect of Galway going down the same route as they did in 1998, 2010 and 2011 when they appointed Mayo's John O'Mahony, former Armagh All-Ireland winning manager Joe Kernan and Kerry native Tomas O Flatharta respectively.

"We have a culture in Galway and the traditional value system in Galway football that makes it imminently suitable for a Galway person based in the county to manage our team," the chairman told Galway Bay FM.

"I would hope to see a Galway person in charge because I don't think it's good for the county to be going outside the county, though we did it before with great success with John O'Mahony."

Many will view former midfield colossus and Sligo manager Kevin Walsh as the obvious successor to Mulholland, while 2013 All-Ireland U21 winning manager Alan Flynn and outgoing selector Paul Clancy could also be in the mix.
