2003 Footballer of the Year Steven McDonnell says Paul Grimley deserves 'huge credit' for the upturn in Armagh's fortunes this year.
It emerged today that Grimley is stepping down as Orchard County boss after two years at the helm following last Saturday's narrow All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat by Ulster rivals Donegal.
McDonnell - who was in charge of the Armagh U-21s this year - tweeted: "Huge credit must be given to Paul Grimley despite what people may think for transforming Armagh's season around. Armagh to the backbone".
Star forward Jamie Clarke (@Jamie_Clarke10) has echoed those sentiments: "A great Armagh man. PG always protected us. He's done so much for Armagh and myself. Ive great respect for him and hope to repay him soon!"
Coach Kieran McGeeney is in pole position to fill the vacancy.
