Cork chairman Bob Ryan has defended senior football manager Brian Cuthbert and selector Ronan McCarthy against James Horan's scathing attack on how they conducted themselves in the run-up to the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.

Mayo manager Horan refused to shake Cuthbert's hand following Sunday's gripping last eight clash claiming the Rebel management, McCarthy in particular, had acted in a "disgraceful" manner by accusing Cillian O'Connor and Kevin McLoughlin of being "very good at tactical fouling".

Speaking to the Examiner, Rebel chairman Ryan voiced his support for Cuthbert and his backroom team.

"I'm very proud of the way Brian Cuthbert and his selectors behaved all year.

"They've come in as a fresh team running the Cork set-up and I'm very proud of the way they conducted themselves and the operation of the team.

"The game is over now. What James Horan said or didn't say, I really don't care. We'll look after our own business and let him look after his."

Referee Cormac Reilly incurred the wrath of Cork players who disputed the amount of additional time the Meath official played but Ryan said: "I think we're prepared to put the thing to rest now.

"We won't be making any further comment on it."
