Offaly's Derek Morkan
Shinrone recorded their first Offaly SHC victory over Birr in 33 years at the weekend.

Joachim Kelly's charges held on for a 2-10 to 0-11 win after the town side had staged a strong second half rally. Derek and Donal Morkan both found the net as Shinrone - who are the reigning county minor and U21 champions - remained top of Group 1 along with St. Rynagh's, who defeated Tullamore by 1-12 to 0-13.

The only goal was scored by former Offaly football captain Ger Rafferty with 10 minutes remaining.

Last year's intermediate champions Ballinamere made it two wins from three when they edged out Kinnitty by 1-18 to 1-16. Trailing by 0-6 to 0-10 at half-time, the north Offaly side stormed back in the second half with Michael Murphy's goal bringing them level, 1-8 to 0-11.

Paddy Murphy finished with 0-7 as Ballinamere prevailed, despite Offaly 'keeeper James Dempsey converting a 52nd minute penalty for Kinnitty.

Champions Kilcormac/Killoughey maintained their 100 per cent record in Group 2 when they routed Belmont on a 3-23 to 1-14 scoreline. Daniel Currans top-scored with 2-2, while Peter Geraghty chipped in with 1-3. David Kenny raised Belmont's solitary green flag.

in the same group, there were first wins for both Seir Kieran and Drumcullen. Offaly captain Joe Bergin hit 2-9 as Seir Kieran surprised a previously undefeated Coolderry, 2-13 to 0-15, while Drumcullen eased their relegation worries with a 1-14 to 1-10 victory over Brosna Gaels.
