Cork vented their fury with referee Cormac Reilly after a time-keeping controversy at the end of today's All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.

The Meath official was surrounded by Cork players as well as team mentor Ciaran O'Sullivan after he blew his final whistle moments after Colm O'Neill's late point from a 20-metre free had reduced Mayo's lead to the minimum. O'Neill seemed to be of the understanding that there was time left for the Rebels to get one last chance, only for Reilly to blow his final whistle after Mayo goalkeeper Rob Hennelly had taken the kick-out.

If the referee had indicated to Cork that the free was the last kick of the game, O'Neill would have had no option but to go for a goal.

In the referee's defence, the free was taken after the two minutes of injury-time signalled at the end of the 70 minutes had elapsed.
