Armagh ladies football captain Caroline O'Hanlon had the honour of getting the netball tournament at the Commonwealth Games underway last week.

The multi-talented sportswoman from Carrickcruppen is part of the Northern Ireland netball team which has been taking part in the Glasgow Games. When the North's netballers took to the court last Thursday morning in the SECC Arena for the first game of the tournament against Malawi, the task of 'tipping off' fell to Caroline.

Unfortunately for O'Hanlon and her team-mates, they lost by 50-71 and further defeats followed against Jamaica (34-65) and New Zealand (79-28) before a 61-40 victory was achieved over St. Lucia.

Before leaving for the Commonwealth Games, Caroline skippered Armagh to a stunning 2-14 to 1-8 victory over favourites Monaghan in the Ulster senior ladies football final at Clones.
