O'Grady: Daly's tank is empty

Former Dublin hurling manager Michael O'Grady feels that Anthony Daly may have nothing left to offer as Dubs boss.

The 1995 and '97 All-Ireland winning Clare captain has devoted the last six years of his life to managing the Metropolitans, leading them to historic national league Division One and Leinster SFC titles. But they finished 2014 empty-handed and O'Grady fears that Daly's well of inspiration may have run dry:

"I'd say, in his tank, there's nothing left for Dublin," he suggest in The Herald. "He's done everything. The man has travelled thousands of miles. He's been at club matches. He's an excellent team on the sideline. He's a great motivator; the lads have great time for him.

"But maybe he's grown stale as well. I know if it was me, I'd be stale. I know with my time with Dublin, it was nothing like what it's now. I had four years, and the fourth year was a slog.

"There's no good time, but I'd imagine his own tank is empty. I personally wouldn't be faulting the man if he decides to go.

"There isn't a doubt that a few of the players are definitely very close to the end of their regime of playing for Dublin. Again, it's not age, it's more mileage. The hard training they do now, I think it knocks the stuffing out of them really."
