Davy Fitzgerald will remain on as Clare senior hurling manager until the end of the 2017 season.

The 2013 All-Ireland winning manager agreed a three-year extension last year, which would have brought him up to the end of 2016.

However, the former Banner County goalkeeper has now reached an agreement with Clare County Board which will see him stay on for an additional season.

Having managed Waterford from 2008 until 2011, the Sixmilebridge clubman agreed his initial three-year term in charge of his native county in October, 2011 and finished that stint in remarkable fashion when masterminding the All-Ireland final replay victory over Cork at Croke Park last September.

As defending All-Ireland champions, Clare failed to win a match in this summer's championship - losing to Cork and Wexford - but Banner chiefs clearly see Davy Fitz as the best man to bring this exciting young team forward.
