We're capable of better, says Deise minor boss

Derek Lyons claimed Waterford were only at '60 per cent' in their All-Ireland MHC quarter-final victory over Dublin at Semple Stadium.

The 2-18 to 0-19 victory came just five days after the reigning All-Ireland champions lost the Munster final replay to Limerick, and sets up a repeat of last year's All-Ireland semi-final against Kilkenny on August 10.

"If you asked me if I'm happy with the performance overall, I'd say no. We were 60pc there. I'll be straight up with you," the Waterford manager said.

"I'm not trying to be disingenuous to Dublin, but we did not perform there today and I was very disappointed if I'm being honest, in terms of our choice selection at times and a lot of rash shooting.

"Around the field again, it was far from what I would expect from these lads, but all I can say in their defence is that I can attribute an amount of that down to two hard games in a row. It probably took its toll more than I actually expected it to."

Lyons expects Kilkenny to be highly-motivated after losing to the Deise 12 months ago.

"I heard a reference coming out of the Kilkenny camp, one of the lads was talking to someone during the week, that they're not going back up to Croke Park to lose another semi-final to Waterford," he continued.

"That's their goal since they beat Dublin in the Leinster final. Fair play to them - they're there on merit. They went through their province and we're going up there as losers of Munster."
