TJ Ryan never envisaged the ease at which his Limerick team saw off the Wexford challenge in today's All-Ireland SHC quarter-final.

Speaking to RTE's Sunday Game shortly after the final whistle, he admitted he didn't see their 24-point success coming: "To be honest, I didn't.

"I think, to be fair to Wexford, playing four weekends in-a-row, it was going to come to a halt at some stage.

"You can see the intensity that's required to play at this level, to do it four weeks, it's very difficult.

"Our guys were spot on. I felt the last day, even from my own point of view, the Munster final, maybe it was my own fault, maybe we did too much the week of the match.

"We trained really hard and I was kicking myself afterwards.

"I thought we were spot on today and I would have been extremely disappointed if it didn't go our way. The performance was very good and professional."

When it was put to him that the preparations for their upcoming semi-final clash would have benefitted from a sterner challenge, Ryan replied: "Preparing for an All-Ireland semi-final is never going to be difficult, it's a great position to be in, we're happy to be there.

"From the lads' point of view, it was a goal today to get back there after last year.

"We're back there now, we have a hell of match coming up in two weeks time. It's a great challenge for myself, the backroom team and the players. It's great to be there."
