There were just two games down for decision this evening as four counties battled it out for a place in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals.

O'Connor Park, Tullamore hosted an attractive double header as the football championship edged towards the business end of the campaign for 2014.

First up, we had the meeting of Cork and Sligo at 5pm. The Rebels were eager to bounce back from their humiliating Munster final defeat to old rivals Kerry at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Sligo entered the match as underdogs but had gathered some momentum in the qualifiers and they really came into this match under the radar.

In the second match at 7pm, Galway and Tipperary went head to head. The Tribesmen lost out to Mayo in the Connacht final and they were disappointed with their performance there.

However, they faced a Tipp side that were the success story of the qualifiers so far, having defeated Longford and more impressively Laois to make it this far.
