Preview: SF qualifier: Cork v Sligo

July 26, 2014

Cork manager Brian Cuthbert has wielded the axe following his team's 0-12 to 0-24 humiliation at the hands of Kerry in the Munster SFC final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.

Damien Cahalane, Fintan Goold, Patrick Kelly, Daniel Goulding, Barry O'Driscoll and John O'Rourke are all relegated to the substitutes' bench and their places go to Brian O'Driscoll, Ian Maguire, Mark Collins, Colm O'Driscoll, Colm O'Neill and Donal Og Hodnett.

The Rebel County players are under no illusions as to what is expected of them.

"In truth, we are fortunate to have another game and we're lucky that our season isn't over," manager Cuthbert said this week.

"It would be disappointing if we had to wait seven months or so to put the Kerry defeat behind us so this game against Sligo will be the ultimate test of character for this squad."

Cuthbert's Sligo counterpart Pat Flanagan, meanwhile, has kept faith with the starting 15 that overcame Limerick in Round 3A.

"People look at the Cork-Kerry game. In my opinion, they are still potential All-Ireland winners so it is going to be very difficult for us," the Offaly native remarked.

"We are going to have to play a lot better and try and put pressure on them in the first 20 minutes and then hopefully sow a few seeds of doubt in Cork minds."
