Cruciate curse strikes Carty

Wexford's Conor Carty is the latest intercounty footballer to be struck down by a cruciate ligament injury.

The corner back will play no more football in 2014 after sustaining the dreaded injury while on club duty.

Carty discovered yesterday that he had torn his anterior cruciate knee ligament playing for Castletown last weekend.

He will be sidelined until 2015 as a result. While the injury comes as a big blow to the player and his club, Wexford are of course already out of the senior football championship, having suffered defeats to Dublin and Laois this summer.

Carty wore the No.4 shirt for the Model County's luckless 0-18 to 0-17 defeat to the O'Moore County at Wexford Park earlier this month and was also left corner back when the Dubs knocked the Slaneysiders out of Leinster at Croke Park in late June.
