Jerome Quinn reports from Randall's Island in New York after a superb first day at the 2014 CYC (Continental Youth Championships).

232 teams played Gaelic Football and Hurling on pitches all over a sprawling venue with a spectacular backdrop.

"This is a central part of our Centenary celebrations," says New York Chairman Liam Bermingham. "It's a very special day. This is what it's all about really, seeing the kids here from all over the country and Canada."

San Francisco, Ottawa and Boston all feature in the report, while young Ruairi Charles from the Trinity Milton club talks about his team's dramatic victory and Ger Lavery proudly boasts that St Brigid's in New York are the only all-girls GAA club in America.
