Preview: Ulster SHC final: Derry v Antrim

July 12, 2014

Rival managers Kevin Ryan Antrim and Derry's Ger Rogan.
Captain Ruairi Convery has called on Derry supporters to come out and show their support at Sunday's Ulster SHC final against Antrim in Owenbeg.

The odds are stacked against Ger Rogan's side who are bidding to prevent the Saffrons from picking up their 13th provincial success in-a-row but Convery said: "Hopefully, we can get a decent crowd at home.

"There's a decent hurling tradition in the county and the hurling fans can maybe be our 16th man. We need every bit of help we can get. We'll be very much the underdogs on Sunday, but that suits us fine. We'll come in under the radar and nobody will be expecting us to win.

Kevin Ryan's Antrim are still licking their wounds following their All-Ireland SHC qualifier defeat to Offaly with the manager admitting this week: "It's been tough to lift them since the Offaly game, that was such a tough defeat for them to take."

The Waterford native has made five changes to his side with Senan Toal, Michael Bradley, Eoghan Campbell, Neil McManus and Christopher McManus called up to the starting 15.

Chris O'Connell, Conor McKinley, Simon McCrory, Thomas McCann and Ciaran Clarke make way.

Verdict - Antrim.
