Goalkeeper Patrick Kelly was surprised that so many people had dismissed Wexford before their dramatic draw with Clare last weekend.

"It was scandalous to write off Wexford," the recalled Banner net-minder is quoted in the Clare Champion.

"I watched their game with Dublin. We knew the challenge we were facing. We drew with them last year. They are a big, physical fit team. It's going to be a serious battle in Wexford Park and, hopefully, the supporters will travel to get behind us again."

Kelly says the All-Ireland champions can thank man of the match Conor McGrath for keeping them in the championship.

"He is a serious player and the top forward in the country," the Inagh-Kilnamona clubman contended.

"Colin Ryan's free-taking was fantastic, while Brendan Bugler and Conor Ryan were superb in the end, the way they came out with ball was a key part in keeping us in the competition.

"Everyone worked really hard. Some lads might have been down in their form, but they showed patches of what they can do in the last 10 minutes. All dug deep and we got the draw in the end."
