McCartan: it was a no win situation for us

Down manager James McCartan has admitted that there was little they could take from their facile win over Leitrim in the qualifiers.

The Ulster side won the match on a scoreline of 4-18 to 0-09 at Pairc Esler last Saturday and progress to the next round of the qualifiers where they will host Kildare on Saturday, July 12th.

They are certain to face a far greater test against the Lilywhites and McCartan admitted to the Mourne Observer that they wouldn't get the credit they deserve.

"It was a no-win situation for us really," said McCartan. "If we didn't really win by a lot of points we would be criticised, and if we did we would not get the credit.

"That is the way it is. This game gave us the chance to get some players back and give them some time to try to create more competition in the panel."
