Goals from Noel Gately and Hubert Darcy were instrumental as Roscommon edged a closely-fought Connacht MFC semi-final against Leitrim in Dr Hyde Park this evening.

The hosts enjoyed the perfect start when Noel Gately found the back of the Leitrim net and Hubert Darcy added a second before Aughawillan's Mark Plunkett pulled one back for the visitors from the penalty spot.

The Rossies went in an the break leading by the narrowest of margins - 2-5 to 1-7 - and the second-half followed a similar pattern with little separating the sides throughout.

But the Enda Lyons-managed Leitrim - who won the Connacht MFL earlier this season for the first time since 1991 - fell away as the final whistle approached.

Fergal O'Donnell's charges now turn their attention to a final date against Mayo in Castlebar on Sunday, July 13th.
