Carlow GAA's main sponsor could be saved after an interim examiner was appointed to Dan Morrissey Ireland Ltd on Friday.

The concrete plant can continue trading pending efforts to come up with a survival plan within 100 days. Dan Morrissey agreed a five-year deal with Carlow county board in 2012 to sponsor all their county teams in football and hurling, but there were fears on Thursday that the company would not be able to honour the final two years of the deal after receivers Grant Thornton closed down its operations and took possessions of all its assets.

Dan Morrissey, which has been involved in the quarrying and concrete production industry since the 1930s, employs 160 people at its four sites, three of which are in Co. Carlow and one in Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. At the height of the busy construction years, the company was one of the biggest independent suppliers of materials to the building trade.
