A breakdown in communication means Waterford hurler Brian O'Sullivan has no choice but to serve a two-game suspension.

The Deise forward was found guilty of hitting Damian Cahalane with his hurley in the first minute in Thurles and he was hit with the suspension retrospectively.

The Examiner reports that the Central Competitions Control Committee contacted the Waterford County Board last week to notify them of the proposed ban.

In what can only be described as an embarrassing lapse in communication, the full-forward only got to hear about it on Thursday evening and it was too late to seek an appearance in front of the Central Hearings Committee.
