'It was the kick in the backside we needed'

Carlow hurler Diarmuid Byrne believes that the NHL Division 2A final defeat to Kerry has spurred them on.

The Barrowsiders were favourites to take the Division 2A title and push on for promotion to 1B, but an in-form Kerry side took the honours on this occasion.

Byrne is adamant that the defeat has made the side realise that they have to work even harder than they have done, which the Mount Leinster Rangers' clubman feels they are doing.

"It was the kick in the backside we needed," Byrne told the Carlow Nationalist. Lads are training and pushing each other. We are more of a team. Everyone is driving and pushing. We know what we have to do.

"No game will be easy now. If we stay training hard and keep doing what we are doing, we can turn the season around."
