Director General Paraic Duffy wouldn't entertain questions about the controversial Sky TV deal at the announcement of the Irish Sport Council's allocation of €2.4m to the GAA yesterday.

Mayo midfielder Aidan O'Shea entered the debate on Tuesday when claiming gaelic games were headed down the professional route but Duffy - who appeared before an Oireachtas Committee along with President Liam O'Neill 24 hours earlier - made it clear twice that he would only respond to questions about the ISC grants.

"Like everybody else, you'd always like to see more," he told the Irish Daily Star. "We accept the situation the Government is in.

"When I came into this job first, six years ago, I think our figure then was €3.24m - now it's €2.4m.

"We've lost almost €1m but we understand why. We hope that maybe we've reached the bottom now and it will be upwards.

"But we appreciate any funding we get and we appreciate the way Ireland is at the moment, you take the hits like everybody else and we have no complaints about that. We appreciate what we get."
