Kilkenny's Neary to be next camogie President

Former Leinster Council provincial chair Catherine Neary has been elected as President elect of the Camogie Association.

Triple All-Ireland club camogie winner Catherine pipped Armagh's Kathleen Woods by 56 votes to 55 at Camogie Congress in Armagh.

Catherine will succeed Aileen Lawlor as the next President of the Camogie Association in 2015.

The Kilkenny city native is a devout member of the James Stephens club although Catherine won her club All-Irelands with St Pauls in the company of the legendary Downey twins - Angela and Ann.

A human resources executive with the HSE at Waterford Regional Hospital, Catherine's niece Aoife played with Kilkenny in the 2014 All-Ireland senior final and her brother well-known referee, Paddy, won two All-Ireland senior hurling medals with the Cats in 1982 and 1983.

Her late father Mick made hurleys for many years for generations of Kilkenny camogie and hurling stars.
