Westmeath hurling selector resigns

Under-pressure Westmeath hurling manager Brian Hanley has been dealt another blow with the news that one of his selectors has resigned.
Delvin clubman Seamus Ennis stepped down after the Lake County beat Kildare to secure their Allianz League Division 2A status last Sunday week, and had no involvement in last Sunday's heavy defeat to Carlow in Dr. Cullen Park.
County board chairman Sean Sheridan insisted that Ennis' resignation had nothing to do with the team's struggles and reports of player unrest.
"I spoke to Seamus and asked him to remain on for as long as he could. He's a businessman and could no longer give the time to the selector's role," Sheridan told the Westmeath Topic.
"There's a big commitment involved and once Westmeath were safe in Division 2A, he took the decision to stand down.
"I'd like to thank Seamus Ennis for his contribution. We have no-one confirmed as a replacement for him yet, but I have spoken to a few people about the position. It's a big commitment."
