The hoganstand.com football team of the week
A hectic weekend of championship football resulted in wins for Donegal, Kerry, Cork, Louth, Wicklow and London. All are represented on this week's hoganstand.com football team of the week.
1. John Flynn (Wicklow)The Garden County netminder kept a clean sheet and was called into action on a couple of occasions to deny Longford with vital saves.
2. Adrian Reid (Louth)Laois deployed corner-forward Damien O'Connor as an extra player out the field but the plan backfired as Reid got his hands on plenty of possession.
3. Neil McGee (Donegal)Donegal's full-back kept Stephen O'Neill on a tight leash and restricted the Red Hand danger man to a solitary point.
4. Damian Cahalane (Cork)Marked his championship debut with two points from a free and a '45' as the Rebel County sauntered to a 3-17 to 0-8 win over Limerick.
5. Conor Gormley (Tyrone)No finger of blame for Tyrone's defeat can be pointed at Gormley who was one of the few Red Hand County players to perform up to scratch.
6. Paudge McWalter (Wicklow)The Wicklow centre-back put his team on a forward footing with regular forays into Longford's defence and he chipped in with a point for good measure.
7. Tony Gaughan (London)Gaughan was one of the stars as London ended a 36-year wait to win a game in the Connacht SFC against Sligo at Ruislip.
8. Anthony Maher (Kerry)Along with his partner Johnny Buckley, Maher dominated the midfield exchanges against the Premier County.
9. Mark Gottsche (London)The Exiles' captain produced a tour de force to gain the upper hand around the middle third of the field and sent over four valuable points.
10. Paddy McBrearty (Donegal)Grew in prominence as the game progressed and set up Ross Wherity for Donegal's second goal and kicked two points
11. Colm Cooper (Kerry)The 'Gooch' appears to be relishing the greater freedom his new role at centre-forward affords him.
12. Brian White (Louth)The Cooley Kickhams clubman gave an exhibition of placed ball kicking against Laois and also made a handsome contribution from general play.
13. Shane Lennon (Louth)Lennon created plenty of headaches for the Laois full-back line and finished the game with 1-3 to his name.
14. Seanie Furlong (Wicklow)The full-forward was the central character in Wicklow's two-point defeat of Longford and his goal proved to be the difference between the sides at the final whistle.
15. Colm McFadden (Donegal)The All Star corner-forward continued where he left off last year and hit Tyrone for 1-3, 1-1 from play.
