McGraynor: we were better against 15
05 July 2012
Wicklow's Conor McGraynor and Armagh's Paul Duffy contest the ball during the qualifier at Aughrim
Conor McGraynor admits Wicklow struggled against Waterford's 14 men.
McGraynor came off the bench to net the crucial goal in Saturday's Qualifier defeat of Na Deise at Aughrim, as the Garden County prevailed by 1-17 to 0-15 after extra time.
But it had looked dodgy for the hosts before that, especially as they laboured to put 14-man Waterford away during normal time:
"It wasn't looking great there for a while but we knew we had the fitness to get us through," the Avondale clubman says in The Wicklow People.
"Sometimes it's a disadvantage [being down to 14 men] and it was for us. We got laid back, didn't put our own work in...
"But when they were back to 15 you could see we were back to our best; each man marked their own man."
