Quigley opts out

18 June 2012

Fermanagh's Seamus Quigley celebrates.
Fermanagh must plan without Seamus Quigley for Saturday week's All-Ireland football qualifier against Cavan.

The Roslea clubman, who was the star of the Erne County's promotion from Division 4 of the Allianz League, has left Peter Canavan's panel after weeks of speculation about his future. He had missed a number of recent training sessions amid reports that he was intending to spend the rest of the summer in the US.

"The Fermangh senior football management team can confirm that Seamus Quigley has left the 2012 senior championship panel," Fermanagh's Liaison Officer Ger Treacy told The Irish News.

"Seamus is no longer in a position to commit to the panel and has therefore withdrawn from the squad. The management team would like to thank Seamus for his contribution this year and hope that he will be available to the panel some time in the future."

Despite naming him in his team for last month's Ulster SFC quarter-final defeat to Down, Peter Canavan didn't introduce the big full forward until well into the second half, claiming he wasn't fit to start due to a hamstring injury.
