Kildare's John Doyle
Kildare captain Johnny Doyle would settle for a one-point victory over Offaly in Sunday's Leinster SFC quarter-final.
The recently-crowned Allianz League Division 2 champions are raging hot favourites to see off their midland neighbours, but Doyle isn't taking anything for granted against a county that boasts an excellent record against the Lilywhites.
"Offaly didn't have the best league campaign. They have a new manager in," Doyle said in The Irish Daily Star.
"Football is strange, you ask a lot of people to call it and the majority of people will probably say 'ah Kildare will win that' but you have to win it on the day. The likes of Rory McIlroy can sink 99 out of 100 putts, but it's that one day that he has to sink it but he misses.
"So you have to perform on the day. It's a local derby.
"Down through the years, Offaly have always risen their game against Kildare and we expect it to be very, very tough and we would be happy if when the referee blows the final whistle we have one point to spare, and that's all it has to be.
"It's going to be a right battle, Offaly have nothing to lose. They are coming in with nobody giving them a chance. That's a position we would love to be in."
