League loss spurred O'Neill and Tyrone on

12 June 2012

Tyrone's Stephen O'Neill
Tyrone ace Stephen O'Neill was glad to consign the NFL Division 2 final defeat at the hands of Kildare to the history books.

O'Neill and his Red Hand team-mates bounced back from their disappointing display against the Lilywhites to record a 0-19 to 1-13 Ulster SFC derby win over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds on Sunday.

"It was a tremendous test to come through, especially after the Kildare game," O'Neill told The Irish News.

"We knew that we did not to ourselves justice in that game that day, but in fairness to Kildare, they had their homework done and played to their game-plan.

"So, we knew we had a lot to do, a lot to work on, as it brought us back down to earth with a bump."

The victory was made all the more sweeter by the fact that it was achieved without the services of injured quartet Tommy McGuigan, Ronan O'Neill, Kyle Coney and Sean Cavanagh.

"The scores can come from everywhere on the team and a lot of players chipped in with scores. We have lost four key men in Tommy, Kyle, Ronan and Sean and we are just going to have to battle on without them.

"Hopefully their injuries heal up quicker than expected."
