Murphy takes up selector's role

Former Kerry keeper and present day selector Diarmuid Murphy
Former Kerry All-Ireland winning goalkeeper Diarmuid Murphy has been appointed to Jack O'Connor's management team in a selector's role.

Speculation had mounted last week that the Dingle clubman was set to be included in O'Connor's management once the Kerry manager was ratified on Monday night.

Speaking to Radio Kerry yesterday, the Kingdom boss confirmed that both Murphy and Joe O'Connor were on board for the 2011 season

"Diarmuid Murphy has a good brain for the game and obviously will have a very good influence on the goalkeepers as well," said O'Connor.

"Pat Flanagan recommended Joe O'Connor, who has a good record himself with Waterford and the Kerry hurlers. Obviously we are sorry to lose Eamonn Fitzmaurice because he made a fantastic contribution but he is young and will come again."
