Following their surprise defeat to Cavan last weekend, Laois manager Mike Quirke has some positive news for the county’s supporters.

The O’Moore County had made a great start to the campaign picking up points in their opening two matches, but they came undone to Cavan last weekend, as the Breffni men ran out comfortable winners.

This weekend, they make the long journey to Ennis where they will take on a Clare side, who have one win from their opening three matches as well.

And Laois’ cause has been aided by the fact that their injury list is subsiding, much to the delight of the manager who gave an update to the Leinster Express.

“Colm Begley’s not far away. Martin Scully, Benny Carroll and Eoin Buggie too,” said Quirke. “There’s a few guys there that aren’t far away and should be available to us in the next week or so.

“There are still twists and turns but for us now as quickly as we can we got to put that out of our head and start focusing on Clare next weekend.

“We are right in the mix, the same as everyone else, to push them out and scrap for points so it is enough to stay in the division.”
