Galway manager Donal O Fatharta insists that ending Kerry's bid for a six-in-a-row of All-Ireland MFC titles wasn't a motivating factor for his side.
Substitute Darragh Kennedy's late point secured a 0-14 to 0-13 victory for the Tribesmen in yesterday's All-Ireland semi-final and brought an end to Kerry's remarkable 34-game unbeaten run at minor level.
"No, there's none of that stuff there. Personally, I wouldn't be like that anyway," O Fatharta said in the Irish Daily Star.
"We would just use Kerry as a yard stick, the way they play. So, no, five-in-a-row or six-in-a-row, that was for the media, we didn't get into that."
O Fatharta praised the character of his team to bounce back from losing the Connacht final to Mayo.
"All year the guys have shown a lot of resilience in games. They've lost games by a point, like the Connacht final. We were a little bit lucky as well because Kerry missed chances towards the end," he added.
