Eamonn Dillon struck both goals as 14-man Dublin beat Carlow by 2-22 to 1-13 at Dr Cullen Park.

Mattie Kenny's side lost Shane Barrett to a straight red card on the cusp of half time but Dillon had already netted twice to put the Dubs on course for their first win of the summer.

Beaten by Kilkenny first day out before drawing with Wexford, Dublin will entertain Galway in their third and last provincial round-robin outing on Saturday week, with a top three finish and a place in the All-Ireland series very much within their grasp.

Colm Bonnar's men were under pressure from the off as they trailed by 1-4 to 0-2 after 15 minutes, Dillon delivering his first three-pointer in the 13th.

Dillon netted again on the half-hour mark and it was 2-10 to 0-8 at the short whistle. Conal Keaney slotted four points for the winners before being called ashore, while Paul Ryan top-scored with nine.

James Doyle plundered Carlow's goal 15 minutes after the restart but the Barrowsiders were unable to spring a surprise.
