Sligo captain Niall Murphy admits that the players are looking forward to the challenge of facing defending Connacht SFC champions Galway on Sunday.

The Yeats County will have home advantage as they host the Tribesmen at the redeveloped Markievicz Park this weekend.

Galway are strong favourites to advance to the provincial decider, but Murphy told the Sligo Champion that they are ready for the test that lies ahead.

“We are looking forward to Sunday, it’s these championship days that you look forward to back in October or November,” said Murphy who added that he is looking forward to playing on the new pitch.

“It’s brilliant having Markievicz ready, we haven’t had much use of it yet but we’re looking forward to being back there it’s another boost to us.

“It’s where we want to be playing and no disrespect to the other county grounds but having our home games in Markievicz is special. We hope now that a lot of spectators will come out and support us too, there will be a lot travelling from Galway as well.”
