Armagh captain Rory Grugan says it’s time for Armagh consolidate their position in Division 2 and stop “yo-yoing” between divisions.
The Orchard men welcome Division 2 joint leaders Fermanagh for an Ulster derby on Saturday afternoon and Grugan says they’ll know what to expect in Crossmaglen (throw-in 3pm), having battled Rory Gallagher’s charges on three occasions last season, including in the Division 3 final.
“We had experience of Fermanagh last year. We had three games against them so we know what they’re all about. And to be fair to Fermanagh they’ve done brilliantly this year,” he is quoted saying by The Irish News.
“They’ve been putting it up to teams. I think it was the Kildare manager (Cian O’Neill) who said that they knew what was coming but it is a different proposition in dealing with it. To be fair to them, they are in a brilliant position and are at the top of the division.”
He added: “We are in a relegation battle and we’ve two games to save ourselves. We’re playing Fermanagh and then we have Cork at home. It’s do-or-die now. But in terms of the progression of this team it is absolutely vital that we stay in Division Two. We’ve done enough yo-yoing between the two (divisions two and three). It’s time to consolidate our position.”
