Ballygunner goalkeeper Stephen O’Keeffe has stressed that their goal has been to win a Munster title for a few years now.

Much has been made of the fact that this current Ballygunner side has not won the provincial title despite their domination in Waterford.

It is now 17 years since Ballygunner last won the Munster club SHC title and they have lost twice to Na Piarsaigh in the last three years.

They will see the same opposition in this year’s final and O’Keeffe told the Waterford News & Star that they are fully focused on the game.

“One hundred percent, it’s all about Sunday week now. It’s obviously been a goal for this team for a long time to win a Munster final so now, as happy as we are to have come through a game like that (semi-final), we have to bring ourselves back down after this win and get ready for that.

“We were in a very similar situation last year. We went to extra time with Thurles Sarsfields and it was another game where the hearts were in the mouths for 80 minutes and we were delighted to win.

“But ultimately we didn’t get the cup so what should have been a good memory along the way was soured by what happened in the final so we understand this win isn’t worth a whole lot without winning the next day.”
