Down disciplinary chiefs come down hard on brawling players

October 17, 2018

A mass brawl breaks out during the Down Division 1 football league clash between Ballyholland and Downpatrick.

Down clubs Ballyholland Harps and RGU Downpatrick are facing expulsion from the 2019 Down SFC.

In addition, the clubs are facing heavy fines and players from both clubs’ lengthy suspensions following the ugly scenes that marred their recent league clash.

BBC Sport Northern Ireland understands that one player has been hit with a proposed two-year suspension, the maximum sentence under rule.

Apparently, several others have been handed 12-month bans.

The clubs and players have the option of appealing the proposed fines and suspensions.
