Referees will “embrace” the challenge of getting to grips with the proposed new gaelic football rules, according to All-Ireland final man in the middle Conor Lane.

Speaking to the Irish Independent at the launch of the Referee Development Plan in Croke Park yesterday, the Cork official admitted that the five rules that are to be introduced on a trial basis will take some getting used to but stated: “We'll have to embrace it.

“Like every year, there is always something new for us. It'll be a big challenge no doubt but we'll embrace it. It will be tough like everything.

“We want to go out to get every decision right, which is a downfall we have, but we look forward to them and we'll embrace whatever comes in.”

He added: “There's no guarantee the five rules are going to come in. It would be more difficult to police.”
