Horan expects Monaghan to send Kerry packing

James Horan is tipping Monaghan to leave Kerry on the championship scrapheap on Sunday.

After a dismal showing against Galway in their Super 8 opener last weekend, nothing less than a win in Clones will suffice for the Kingdom. But Horan thinks they're heading for an early championship exit.

"It is worrying for Kerry that they looked to David Clifford to dig them out of a hole last Sunday. A 19-year-old in his year out of minor," the former Mayo manager wrote in the Irish Daily Star.

"Monaghan's goal for years has been getting to an All-Ireland semi-final. They have a chance to take a giant step towards that on their own turf, so there will be nothing half-assed about their approach.

"The key for Kerry is David Moran. When he's going well, he's the turbo-charger for that team. But the problem is that he mixes spectacular games with really quiet ones. They need him to be on it next Sunday.

"My gut feeling is that Monaghan will be so pumped that they'll seize the day. Monaghan to effectively end Kerry's summer."
