Westmeath manager Michael Ryan feels that Croke Park will bring out the best in both teams in this year's Joe McDonagh Cup final.

The Lake County will take on their old adversaries Carlow in the inaugural final after the Barrowsiders booked their place in the decider courtesy of a six-point win over the already qualified Midlanders last weekend.

The final will be played before the Leinster SHC final, and Ryan feels that playing in Croker will make for a different type of game between two sides that are very familiar with one another.

"They know a fair bit about us and we know a fair bit about them, but Croke Park is going to be a different scenario," Ryan told the Westmeath Examiner.

"It's a much bigger pitch and there will be a lot more pressure on both teams to win the game. That game will take on a life of its own."
