The Laois hurlers have received a huge boost ahead of next weekend's Joe McDonagh Cup opener against Westmeath with the return of Stephen 'Picky' Maher to full fitness.
Laois Today reports that the Clough-Ballacolla forward made his first appearance since rupturing his cruciate ligament last summer against the Laois U21s in a challenge match last weekend. Maher suffered the injury against Carlow in the All-Ireland qualifiers and his return is a timely boost for Eamonn Kelly's side. He is expected to see more game-time in another challenge game against London in Portlaoise this afternoon.
PJ Scully has also returned to the squad after a 14-month absence, but Cahir Healy and Aaron Dunphy remain long-term absentees, while a hand injury is threatening Sean Downey's participation in the championship.Tweet
